March 17, 2026 – The Sunset Mesa campus turned into a courtroom as fifth graders took part in the school’s annual Mock Trial—an engaging, hands-on experience that brings the judicial system to life.
Students stepped into a variety of roles, including attorneys, witnesses, and jurors, as they worked through a full trial based on a familiar fairy tale. This year’s case featured the Big Bad Wolf on trial, giving students a fun and creative way to apply what they’ve learned about the legal system.

The judge listens intently as students make their case for the big bad wolf.
A special highlight of the event is the presence of Judge Whitaker, who returns each year to preside over the trial. His involvement adds authenticity to the experience, and students eagerly take advantage of the opportunity to ask questions about real courtroom cases and procedures after the trial concludes.
Parents and community members also join in the experience, sometimes serving as members of the jury, making the event feel even more real for students. From opening statements to final verdicts, the Mock Trial is a memorable way for students to build confidence, think critically, and experience learning in action.
